Indigenous Community Visioning

The Indigenous Community Visioning project was funded through Ontario's Ministry of Indigenous Affairs.

From fall of 2021 through summer of 2022, CHIL has been connecting with Indigenous community members for direction on drafting the first Indigenous community vision for Hamilton.  Our conversations with community have helped us to better understand the urban Indigenous experience in Hamilton today and how Indigenous community members envision a Hamilton where Indigenous Peoples thrive.

PHASE 1: LEARN

This stage of the project is focused on connecting with Indigenous community members to gather stories, experiences, and visions for Hamilton.

PHASE 3: SHARE

This stage of the project will present a draft Indigenous community vision back to community for feedback.

PHASE 2: DRAFT

During this phase, CHIL staff will weave together the stories and visions shared in Phase 1 to create a first draft of an Indigenous community vision for Hamilton.

PHASE 4: ACT

This phase of work will focus on utilizing the Indigenous Community Vision for Hamilton to guide existing collaborations and inform new initiatives.

The Indigenous Community Vision has been released!
